Kayak trip southern gulf islands two nights (18 May 2013)

First club kayak trip of the year - get the most out of a longs weekend

Point to point tour of the southern Gulf Islands, rolling on/off ferries and start/finish at Tsawassen

Proposed: Swartz Bay - Portland Island - Saturna Island (Narvaez Bay) - Otter Bay. We have the possibility of a shorter route as well.

Distance:
60 km !!!

Level: Intermediate
Long days of paddling, some crossings and some currents

Kayak Checkout/Refresher/Get Wet Clinic (22 May 2013)

This is a general kayak session that combines checkouts
and refreshers and is a prerequisite to introductory lessons.

If you are doing a checkout, be sure to review your technique for both paddle-float solo recovery and assisted recovery (T rescue) - this is not a lesson!

Please bring immersion gear that is appropriate for the water conditions (full wetsuit or drysuit).

Rowing Introductory Lessons - Group R3 (25 May 2013)

Rowing Introductory Lessons. These lessons are for people who are new to the sport. Eight hours of instruction will get you to the point where you can safely launch, land and row on your own.

Three classes:
Saturday May 25 0800 to 1100
Sunday May 26 0800 to 1030
Saturday June 1 0800 to 1030

Bring a wetsuit for the first lesson. You will need to perform a self-rescue at the end of the first lesson

Introductory Kayak Lessons Session II (25 May 2013)

This introductory lesson is intended for those with limited kayak experience, and will be delivered by a certified Paddle Canada instructor. Attendance at a Get Wet session is a prerequisite to this session. More details of this lesson can be found here.

Please bring:

a lunch,
a wet suit or dry suit
a synthetic layer for under the wet suit,
rain jacket or wind shell that you don’t mind getting wet, shoes or booties that you can wear in the water,
a complete change of warm clothes for afterwards,

Lessons will start on the hour - please arrive a bit early.

For the 2013 Season ClubLocarno has decided to offer in-house Windsurfing lessons. Our 8 hour introductory course:

Saturday 25th May, 6pm to 8pm
Sunday 26th May, 6pm to 8pm

Saturday 1st June, 6pm to 8pm
Sunday 2nd June, 6pm to 8pm

We will give both on land tuition and on-water instruction using our well maintained gear.

New members will be taught the correct use of our equipment, how to carry, clean and store. Successful completion of this course will grant the new member use of our Level 1 Equipment.

You are required to provide your own Wetsuit. You can rent a wetsuit at the Jericho Centre.

For the sailing and rowing fleets, experienced members will be assigned to various boats and they will be available to take members out on the water. For windsurfing and kayaking, experienced members will be asked to prepare boats/rigging and guide new members on the water within a narrow reach of the club.
