Tuesdays Social Sailing/Racing.

This is a member run, weekly sailing together. It's the best environment to practice your sailing skills, push your limits, and meet other sailors.

We’ll match more and less experienced sailors in Quests, Vanguards & Tasars. Some boats will participate in the Jericho Tuesday races while other boats will just sail.

We’ll have some social time afterwards to connect and share the stories and lessons of the day.

We'll meet at 5pm at the Locarno boats’ aisle for a 5:45 launch.

New sailors are most welcome. More experienced members are invited to mentor you and facilitate your sailing learning curve.

Weather permitting - we'll cancel the sailing if winds are higher than 20 knots, but we’ll practice the rigging and unrigging of the boat. Sailors will sail the boats they are currently checked out.

LASER Clubroom Orientation & Rigging Clinic (Parts 1 & 2 - dry checkout ) RC5 (08 Aug 2026)

About the Boat

The most popular single-handed race boat in the world, the Laser is enjoyed by everyone from club racers to Olympians. The Laser rewards practice and good sailing technique, keeping even the most seasoned racer engaged.

A three rig system allows the Laser to be enjoyed by sailors of any size and skill.

There are three different sail sizes available on Lasers. The largest one is the Full Rig (also sometimes called Standard Rig) which is 76sq feet. The next size down is the Radial Rig at 62sq ft. The smallest size sail is the 4.7 Rig at ~49sq ft. The different sail sizes roughly correspond to the weight of the sailor, but can also be used to compensate for different wind conditions.

About the event

This Rigging Clinic is for experienced sailors who want to be cleared to use a new fleet; it is also a great refresher for those who are already checked out and want to practice rigging before your first sails of the season.

Members should be very comfortable sailing the Quests and Vanguards before attempting this boat checkout.

This clinic includes Part 1 and Part 2 of the checkout, and is "dry" as it takes place onshore.

Part 1 of the checkout is the clubroom orientation to the sailing fleet and club room, checkout log system and location of foils and spars.

During Part 2 of the checkout, you will see the Rigging Clinic. Then you will have to demonstrate you can independently rig and de-rig the boat, so you are ready for Part 3 of the Checkout. (Part 3 of the Checkout is on the water, is not included in the Rigging Clinic and requires a separate registration.)

Prerequisites

All checkout participants must know how to sail and have experience on a Laser or a similar boat class, ideally not less than 20 hours.

VANGUARD - Club Orientation and Rigging Clinic (Checkout Parts 1&2 - dry checkout ) RC5 (08 Aug 2026)

Rigging Clinics are an opportunity for members with existing sailing skills to become familiar with the club room and the rigging intricacies, as well as to demonstrate their basic sailing competency.

About the event

It is for sailors who want to be cleared to use the Vanguard fleet; it is also a great refresher.

Part 1 will include an orientation to the sailing fleet and club room. During Part 2 of the checkout, you will see the Rigging Clinic. You will also require an on-water checkout (Part 3); this is a separate registration.

Prerequisites

All rigging clinics participants must know how to sail and preferably have experience on or an a similar boat class. We recommend you take a look at the Rigging instructions and the Vanguard Manual to have an idea of what to expect beforehand.

LASER - On-water skills CHECKOUT (Part 3 of 3) CH5 (08 Aug 2026)

The on-water skills checkout consists in the demonstration of rigging, launching, safety sailing including capsize recovery as well as landing, unrigging and stowing after sailing.

An experienced club member and LASER sailor will be on hand to review capsize procedures, and to assess your competency in launching, landing, on-water handling, and capsize recovery.

Members are expected to complete Parts 1 and 2 prior to attending this skills checkout. Part 1 is the Club room orientation and Part 2 is the Rigging Clinic, both dry.

Members should be very comfortable sailing the Quests and Vanguards before attempting this boat checkout.

Prerequisite:

Sailing Orientation & Rigging Clinic (Part 1 & 2) for the same vessel.

Tasks

Find the foils and rig
Transport craft to water
Controlled launch
Stay near shore, maintain a heading
Tack, Gybe
Capsize and recover
Controlled landing (low speed, retract board, unlock rudder, boat into irons in standing depth, no boat contact with bottom or shore)
Return craft to unrig location
Unrig and stow. Hang sails.

Women’s Sailing Clinic

Join us for an evening of sailing, skill-building and community.

This clinic is intended for women who already have the fundamentals of sailing and are looking to build confidence on the water. It is not intended as a beginner sailing lesson. Women of all ages, backgrounds and identities are welcome. You do not need to be checked out on a Laser to participate.

We’ll focus on feel-based sailing, developing instinct, building confidence, and learning through feel and repetition in a supportive, inclusive and non-intimidating environment.

The Laser, the world’s most successful Olympic single-handed dinghy, is one of the best boats in the world for developing “boat feel.” With one sail and one sailor, it provides immediate feedback, helping sailors build instinct, balance and confidence. These are skills that transfer to every boat you sail.

Whether you’re looking to gain confidence in a Laser, refine your sailing, or simply enjoy an evening on the water with other women, we’d love to have you join us.

Spots in the Lasers are limited. If registration exceeds the number of Lasers available, we’ll open additional spots in Quests and Vanguards so more women can join the clinic. At least one skipper in each Quest or Vanguard must already be checked out on that class.

This on land part of the checkout includes a visit to the Club room to see where RS 500 boat sails and parts are stored (Part 1) and a rigging clinic (Part 2). It is for experienced sailors who want to be cleared to use a new fleet; it is also a great refresher.

The on-water skills checkout consists in the demonstration of independent rigging, safety launching, sailing including capsize recovery, landing, and de-rigging.

An experienced sailor will be on hand to review capsize procedures, and to assess your competency in launching, landing, on-water handling, and capsize recovery. Members are expected to complete Parts 1 and 2 prior to attending this on the water skills checkout.

Prerequisite:

Members should be very comfortable sailing the other club monohulls before attempting this boat checkout.

Nacra 500 (Level 1 Recreational Catamaran) - Rigging clinic and DRY CHECKOUT - RC5 (29 Aug 2026)

About the boat

The Nacra 500 Fun is perfect for recreational sailing but can also be used for local club racing. At the Nacra family we also call this boat the ‘pocket rocket’. It’s a simple but really quick catamaran and easy to maneuver in different kind of waves with the large buoyant hulls. Launching from the beach is easy with the kick-up rudders and the skeg hulls. All working gear is from Harken, just like the other Nacra leisure boats.

Next to all the features of the Nacra 500 Fun, the Sport edition has a larger battened MNX jib which reaches down to the spinnaker pole. Giving the boat more power lower down, more drive and less heel. The Nacra 500 Sport also comes without dagger boards and a simpler hull construction which saves weight and gains more speed. The 17 square nylon spinnaker packs in a cloth chute with glass fibre entry, making it easy to launch and recover. All in all, the Naca 500 Sport is in perfect balance and enables you to drive fast upwind and downwind.

Clubroom Orientation & Rigging Clinic (Part 1 & 2) for the same vessels.
Members are expected to complete Parts 1 and 2 prior to attending this skills checkout, or having been cleared out after attending Intro to Catamaran for Beginner lessons sailing Locarno boats Nacra 500 and/or 570.
