Introduction

The clinic, orientation and checkout are required for members who would like to access the appropriate foiling equipment.

The session will cover:

Correct Club Locarno procedures for storing, rigging, carrying and using foil equipment,
Confirmation of prerequisite experience, and
Skills clinic for first flights (optional for experienced foilers).

The event is free. Please use the registration form to register as either:

A leader, to teach the clinic,
An attendee for wing foiling,
An attendee for windsurf foiling, or
An assistant leader (optional), who's helping or shadowing the leader.

Prerequisites

The following is the prerequisite levels of experience:

Windsurf foiling access - Level 3 and advanced level 2 windsurfing, capable of uphauling on 135L boards and has excellent sail handling skills.
Wing foiling access - Proficient level 1 winging, capable of sailing a course and keeping upwind on a 135L board.

Preparation

As preparation, please refer to:

Depending on the weather we may go on the water, so come prepared.

Afterwards

Members who satisfy prerequisite experience will be granted access and can immediately use equipment.

Following the clinic, members are encouraged to go for a drink or food at the JSCA Galley.

This checkout is mandatory for ALL members wishing to use our windsurfing fleet. This is not a windsurfing lesson. To attend this checkout you are expected to have either:

- At least 15 hours of windsurfing/wing experience, or
- Completed Windsure's beginner Windsurf/Wing Lessons.

Successful completion of the checkout will qualify you to use the appropriate fleet gear.

Registration

Select the registration option that matches skills and experience you currently have and gear you wish to access.

If you are an existing fleet member and want to move up a level, such as smaller boards and foils, please contact a fleet captain or the fleet director separately.

Orientation

The orientation will:

Show you where our windsurfing equipment is stored
Go over the windsurfing craft sign out procedure
How to properly transport the gear to and from the beach
How to report damage.

Skills checkout

The skills checkout will require you to demonstrate your ability to:

Launch, sail out, tack and sail your windsurfing board safely back to the beach,
Self rescue technique.

Demonstration is waived if you recently, successfully completed Windsure's Discover Windsurfing I & II or Discover Wing Surfing lessons.

Additional skills demonstration maybe required to access more advanced equipment than L1 boards (i.e. longboard fin boards).

Please wear your wetsuit (mandatory for windsurfing) to be ready to demonstrate your on-water skills.

At the discretion of the checkout leader the on-water test may be waived.

Beginner Windsurf Lessons (7 days, all month) (01 May 2026)

Club Locarno have partnered with Windsure Adventure Watersports to offer introductory to Windsurfing lessons at Jericho Sailing Centre as 'buy 1 get 1 free'.

Club Locarno member must have completed these courses, or equivalent, to be eligible to access the Windsurfing fleet.

Two 3-hour sessions:

Discover Windsurfing I - $158
Discover Windsurfing II - FREE*

* Discovery Windsurfing II is free subject to paying and completing Discover Windsurfing I.

Prices are per person, before tax and booking fee. You first signup with this registration form to access the coupon code for this special offer.

When:

March & April - call Windsure for possible early season lesson options.
May 1st to September 30th, most days (weekdays & weekends), per Windsure's schedule and availability.

Content:

You will receive both on land and on water instruction. Skills taught include understanding the wind (points of sail), how to launch and land safely, basic maneuvers (tack) and how to self rescue. You will also be taught the correct handling of the gear including how to safely carry, clean and store the boards and sails.

All windsurf equipment provided as well as personal flotation device (PFD) and wetsuit.

Conditions:

Registration Process:

Complete the Club Locarno Registration form. You will receive an email with a coupon code.
Do not share this coupon code with others. This is important.

You will register for Discover Windsurfing I and Discover Windsurfing II.

After the lessons

After you have completed your lessons you must do a Level 1 checkout so we can show you the gear checkout procedures. You can contact the windsurfing director or a fleet captain to see if this can be scheduled on one of your lesson days. We want to get you out on the water as soon as possible. :-)

Club Locarno have partnered with Windsure Adventure Watersports to offer professional Winging lessons at Jericho Sailing Centre for 50% discounted price.

Lessons:

Discover Wing Surfing - 3.5-hour professional training

When:

March & April - call Windsure for possible early season lesson options.

Content:

Board Repair Clinic (18 Jun 2026)

This clinic is free. Please use the registration form to register as either:

A leader, to teach the clinic
A attendee to learn
An assistant leader (optional), who's helping or shadowing the leader.

Learn how to repair a board! Use fiberglass and epoxy to make a broken board work like new. An essential skill for running the club, and advanced windsurfers. Board repair skills also translate well to repair of other glass-fibre and carbon craft, such as kayaks and boats.

After the first session we can determine additional sessions together. Depending on the complexity it takes 2-4 separate sessions to repair a board.

We will work on board(s) that are in need of repair, so this is a practical clinic. Before we start we will go over board design and the principles and tools involved. Successful completion of the checkout will qualify you to use the appropriate fleet gear.

Registration

Additional skills demonstration maybe required to access more advanced equipment than L1 boards (i.e. longboard fin boards).

Please wear your wetsuit (mandatory for windsurfing) to be ready to demonstrate your on-water skills.

At the discretion of the checkout leader the on-water test may be waived.

This is a clinic geared towards Level 1 and Level 2 windsurfers. It will teach you how to do an efficient low-wind non-planing gybe. Having these low-wind skills will set you up for gybes and tacks at higher windspeeds, and also reduce the number of times you have to uphaul.

Windsurf Trip - Nitinaht Aug'26 (THE BIG TRIP) (31 Jul 2026)

Open to L2 & L3 - Windsurfers and Wingers. Limited number of foils will be taken this year.

Destination: Nitinaht Lake, BC

This trip is awesome for intermediate and advanced sailors. Beautiful Nitinaht Lake typically has no wind in the morning and high wind at the end of the day. A great opportunity to progress.

Level 2 sailors can enjoy consistent strong winds to nail water starts, get into harness lines and foot straps and get planing, and get foiling. Level 3 will enjoy blasting, bump & jump and lots of runs to perfect their carve gybe.

The trip details:

Dates are: Friday, July 31st to Monday, August 3rd (August long weekend).
Open to Level 2 and 3 windsurf members.
You will organize your own transport, tents & food etc. (Often members share transport)
The club will rent a van to transport most club gear. Ideally some members will also take gear on roof racks.

Prices & charges:

Club arranged camping is $55 per adult (3 nights)
Kids under 17 are free (limits apply)
Club Locarno gear is an additional trip fee of $35 (members only)

Guests & kids:

Partners, kids and other guests are welcome.
Maximum 1 adult guest
Maximum 4 kids under 17 years old
Members with a guest should try to share a tent so as to keep space available for other members
In the reservation form, DO NOT include kids in the number of guests, instead indicate the number of kids in specific drop-down box.

Important Notes:

Do not register another Locarno windsurf member as a guest - have them register separately.
Windsurf members with their own camping arranged are welcome to join and use the club equipment for the $35 fee.
The road to Nitinaht includes 45 km of (mostly good) gravel logging road.
We will sort out details for tents, sites and transport at the planning meetings.
Due to summer demand, book ferries for vehicles ASAP

Participation and volunteering

The trip is member run. To share the load, members are expected to:

Help with loading the van & post-trip clean up
Rigging and carrying gear

A rigging and transportation clinic will be organized in July.

Registration survey:

Please complete the survey as best as possible to aid trip planning. Planning considerations include windsurf gear, transport and Nitinaht campsite occupancy limits for adults, kids and number of tents. Survey results will be reviewed and reconfirmed at the planning meeting, in case there are changes.

Addition information:

Members can organize their own camping at the Nitinaht Campsite. If there is no availability, check again closer to the time as there are often last minute cancellations.
For members taking a vehicle, book a BC Ferry ASAP
A U-Haul van is booked for gear transport and will be on the 8:35 AM ferry on Friday and back on the 8:30 PM ferry on Monday.

Introduction

The clinic, orientation and checkout are required for members who would like to access the appropriate foiling equipment.

The session will cover:

Correct Club Locarno procedures for storing, rigging, carrying and using foil equipment,
Confirmation of prerequisite experience, and
Skills clinic for first flights (optional for experienced foilers).

The event is free. Please use the registration form to register as either:

A leader, to teach the clinic,
An attendee for wing foiling,
An attendee for windsurf foiling, or
An assistant leader (optional), who's helping or shadowing the leader.

Prerequisites

The following is the prerequisite levels of experience:

Windsurf foiling access - Level 3 and advanced level 2 windsurfing, capable of uphauling on 135L boards and has excellent sail handling skills.
Wing foiling access - Proficient level 1 winging, capable of sailing a course and keeping upwind on a 135L board.

Depending on the weather we may go on the water, so come prepared.
