About Club Locarno
Club Locarno is a non-profit club run by member volunteers in Vancouver.
We offer our members access to high quality equipment for sailing, kayaking, surfski, rowing, SUP (stand up paddling), windsurfing, and we have foiling vessels in our sailing and windsurfing fleets (i.e. Waszp and wingfoiling). We are funded entirely by membership fees, and members have the opportunity to vote on all significant decisions.
Club Locarno accommodates both beginners and experienced water sport enthusiasts. Our Members are required to be at least 15 years of age, and to help in the volunteer operation of the club. For example, volunteers help run parties, maintain and repair watercraft, manage a fleet, and can run to be on the Executive. With everyone pitching in, and with no paid staff, we're able to keep our membership fees very affordable. For more information on membership and how to join, click on the "Membership" link at the top of this page.
Value Comparison (data based on the 2024 season)
We believe that we offer the best value to someone who wants to get on the water, and we have done the homework to back it up:
What does Club Locarno offer?
You get access to all of the craft in the fleet(s) that you join (and which you have the skills to use) with out any additional charges. You get access to excellent lessons at low cost, free checkouts and refreshers if you already have the skills, and free clinics to develop new skills. Our crafts can be used in the various race series that happen at Jericho such as the Sunday and Tuesday sailboat/windsurf races, and the Thursday paddle/row races. The craft in some fleets are also available for low cost rentals and club trips.
We also run a variety of social events throughout the season. Some examples are the Season Opener, summer rowing regatta, BBQs and our Christmas party. Club Locarno socials are a great place to meet members across all fleets, and fantastic for enjoying Jericho's on-shore amenities (rooftop! BBQ! beach!) after a club activity or adventure on the open water.
When can you go on the water?
Once you are cleared to use a fleet, it is available for your use dawn until dusk, all year round, on a drop-in basis. Usage is subject to a two-hour limit when others are waiting, and some fleets are partially decommissioned during the winter months as demand declines, but members usually find the boat that they want, when they want it.
We purchase high quality boats and boards, and maintain them well so that they are ready when you are. We provide all the equipment (watercraft, lifejackets, harnesses, sails, paddles, pumps, etc) and training you'll need to get out on the water, with the exception of personal items such as clothing (wetsuit, jackets, etc) and a safety whistle.
Where is Club Locarno?
We are based in The Jericho Sailing Centre, on the south side of beautiful English Bay, where you can enjoy water activities, a beachfront patio, breathtaking sunsets, and panoramic views of the North Shore mountains, Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver.
Why join Club Locarno?
