Surf Ski Lesson:

Surfskis are the fastest kayaks in the fleet.  They are for experienced kayakers who want to challenge themselves.  Once you have completed a surf ski lesson and demonstrated recovery back onto the surf ski, you have full access to these boats.  For people new to kayaking, it is recommended that you become comfortable in the narrow touring kayaks first.

Come and checkout on the surfski fleet and try out the fastest kayaks on the water!

This is a requirement for anyone who wants to use the surfski fleet. It is not a lesson and you should have previous experience on surfskis or be an experienced kayaker with good balance. This not suitable for kayaking beginners.

The check out is done in two parts. A dry land section where we discuss storage and care of the gear (will also review the rescues) and the in-water self-rescues.

Arrive promptly and bring a wetsuit or drysuit - everyone swims!

Please review the following links with instructions and tips about how to remount a surfski:

Other Clinics

Members of the Kayaking Fleet are eligible to take part in various free clinics, depending on their level of experience.  Additional clinics will be scheduled as the season progress and in response to member interest.

Previous clinics have included: Trip Planning and Leading, Paddle Strokes, Rolling and Rescue Techniques and Kayak Transportation.

Pool Sessions:

The Lord Byng pool is open to the public for kayak practice every Friday from 2000 to 2100.  This provides a great opportunity to practice or develop skills in the off season.  Group sessions are scheduled  from time to time using club equipment and are open to everyone in the fleet; if you want to organize a session for yourself or a group, please contact the kayaking director.
