We are fortunate to enjoy the best places for kayaking right in our own backyard. We are blessed with paddling destinations to and around the Gulf Islands, locations that you can get to directly from Jericho Beach, destinations where you are almost guaranteed to be paddling with whales, sea lions and dolphins, and beautiful island cliff walls where you can see a wealth of sea life from your kayak.   The west coast truly is the best coast!

The objective of this online event is to excite you about the kayaking possibilities and to give you some ideas about the skills that you will need.

John Kimantas, editor and owner of Coast & Kayak Magazine and the author of the Wild Coast series and the BC Coastal Recreation and Kayaking and Small Boats Atlas series, will be participating in this online session as a guest presenter.

John, Em Glasby and Barb & Rob Holley will each talk about one of their favourite paddling destinations and illustrate the following topics with photos:

  • Logistics: Getting to the launch site and factors to consider when launching

  • Attractions: what sets this area apart from other destinations
  • Challenges: wind, current, distances, nature of landings, remoteness, navigational complexity
  • Skill requirements for the area
  • Recommended number of days for the trip
  • Camping and stopping sites and their characteristics.

This event is free for active members and $5.00 for guests and former members.
