This is the official announcement that we are collecting pre-orders for your own Club Locarno rash guard. We have 4 styles of O'Neill long sleeve 50+ UV protection shirts that you can choose from (as well as a few colour choices for each). You can check them out and place your order here:
https://www.clublocarno.com/Club-Locarno-Store

We highly recommend that you come and try the shirts on in person before placing your order, as the sizing is definitely different than you'd expect. If you can’t make either fitting date but want to try your luck with purchasing one without trying it on, here are some things to consider:

  • Women’s styles (Tight Fitting Rash Guard and Loose Fit Sun Shirt)
    • Fit fairly close to expected size, but definitely on the small side of the range.
    • The sleeves are fairly short.
  • Men’s Loose Fit Sun Shirt
    • Fit fairly close to expected size
    • The sleeves are on the short end, so if you like your sleeves longer, consider getting a size larger.
  • Men’s/Unisex Tight Fit Rash Guard
    • At minimum, order one size larger than your normal size. For example, I’m a skinny, tall woman, and I thought I’d get a size small, but ended up getting a medium.
    • Some men even went two sizes larger than their normal size if they didn’t want the shirt to be so tight.
    • This style is the best if you like your shirt sleeves/body to be long
    • This is the only option with a collar to cover your neck

If some volunteers step forward to facilitate them, more fitting sessions at different times or days in the week could be arranged. Respond to this email if you wish to help out. If you can't make it down to the club for any of these fitting events, please also respond to this email and let me know.

Now for a personal story from the vice-commodore Sarah who led the project to make the UV shirts a reality:
I spend a lot of my time on the water and at the JSCA in the summer. I wear UV shirts constantly when I'm down there, and last year when I was needing to buy a new one for myself, I  found myself wishing I could have a Club Locarno printed one. This club has been such a blessing in my husband's and my life, so I felt that I'd enjoy having our on-the-water attire reflect the connection we feel to this club. I'm an introverted person, and after moving to Vancouver, I spent a lot of years feeling like I didn't have any friends or connections here. After a few years of being in Club Locarno, I had a sudden realization that a community had really blossomed all around me. I had a place to go besides work and home - somewhere I could spend as much time as I wanted without having to spend money. A place where I knew other people and other people knew me. A place where I could ask for help (or at least I felt I could challenge my fears/worries about asking other people for help).
My hope is that these shirts will contribute to making other club member's feel happy and connected to this community and the one-of-a-kind place we have the privilege to play in.
