Cross Fleet Exploration - Try out the Windsurfing and SUP Fleets

One of the best things about Club Locarno is the wide variety of fleets we have! Take this opportunity to expand your horizons and come and see what the Windsurfing and SUP Fleets have to offer. Our SUP Fleet includes leisure and racing stand-up paddle boards. Our Windsurfing Fleet includes beginner boards, long boards for going upwind, advanced short boards, foiling boards, and wing foiling kits. If you are a Locarno member, but haven't tried the Windsurfing or SUP Fleets, then this Cross Fleet Exploration event is for you! Even if you don't plan on joining these fleets, this is a great opportunity to see the other parts of our club that your membership fees support!

At this free event, you will get a hands-on feel of what the Windsurfing Fleet and Stand-up Paddling Fleet offer. No previous experience necessary. Possible (wind dependent) activities include:

• Coffee/treats, welcome, and introductions
• Try out the Windsurfing Fleet
• • look at different kinds of boards and foils we have
  • get on the windsurfing simulator on the beach 
  • try uphauling a sail on the water (your board will be tied to the beach or held in place by a volunteer)
  • try flying the wings on the beach
• Try out the Stand-up Paddle (SUP) Fleet
• • look at different kinds of boards and paddles we have (including the inflatables that can be rented)
  • get an introduction of how to stand on the board and how to paddle
  • go for a short paddle with SUP Fleet members

Windsurfing and SUP Fleet volunteers: please also register here so we know how many volunteers we can expect to help with this event. If you are a member of both fleets, pick which fleet would be your first choice to help with. 

What to Wear
Usually wetsuits are required for windsurfing. However, for this event we will make wetsuits optional since we will be staying relatively close to shore. You can wear any synthetic athletic clothing that you don't mind if it gets wet. Bare feet or water shoes are acceptable. 
Keep in mind that even if it is a hot day, it is easy to get cold if you are falling in the water a bunch and/or if the wind is high. If you wish, you can rent wetsuits from Windsure.
