On Saturday, a number of Waszp, windsurf and wing foiling folks from various clubs around English Bay have decided to sail with the West Vancouver Yacht Club's (WVYC) foiling practice for some drills, short practice races, etc. Club Locarno members have been invited to join in on the action. The wind forecast is looking promising, so hopefully it will be a fun time!

What to Expect

  • Sailing with potentially 6 - 8 Waszps, minimum of 2-3 foiling windsurfers, 1-2 wings

  • Launching out of and sailing within the vicinity of Jericho
  • RIB coach boat support
  • Marks will be set for drills and short races
  • No expectations - leave anytime you feel ready to be done!

Why would I want to join?

  1. Cause its fun to sail around other boats
  2. Cause its fun to see how fast (or not) you actually go
  3. Cause it is a great way to potentially get a photo taken of you out sailing (a volunteer will be playing a supportive and photographer role)
  4. Cause it helps you see how other people are sailing so you can learn from them
  5. Cause you meet other people of the community
  6. Cause you're liable to hear some coaching knowledge/feedback
  7. Cause you were planning to be out sailing anyway
Who

This event is open to intermediate to advanced sailors on:

  • Waszp
  • windsurfers (foiling, or non-foiling)
  • wing foilers

This event is not particularly suitable for beginners as they are hoping to have lots of sailors maneuvering in close proximity around each other. Here are some skills you need to have:

  1. Be an independent sailor/board rider (can sail all points of sail for at least 30 minutes at a time)
  2. Absolutely 100% know your collision regulations if not the racing rules of sailing (you need to act early & predictably around foiling vessels)
  3. Can maintain constant flight or plane in control for 2 minutes and can steer appropriately to avoid others without crashing.

When/Where
A detailed game plan will be sent out to all registered participants on Friday night (based on wind and other factors). Tentatively the start could be as early as 9am and sailing until 4pm.
