ClubLocarno, started in 1989, is a non-profit, member-run club offering sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, rowing, surf skiing and stand up paddling. We have top-notch equipment in all our fleets, so you can enjoy outstanding water sports year-round. With relatively low membership fees, we provide all the equipment (watercraft, lifejackets, harnesses, sails, paddles, pumps, etc) and training you'll need to get out on the water, with the exception of personal items such as clothing (wetsuit, jackets, etc) and a safety whistle.
Our Members are required to be 19 years of age or older, and volunteer 4 hours a year. Volunteers give lessons, organise parties, create newsletters, maintain and repair watercraft, plan trips, manage a fleet, and participate on the executive committee. With everyone pitching in, and with no paid staff, we're able to keep our membership fees very affordable.
We are based in The Jericho Sailing Centre, on the south side of beautiful English Bay, where we can enjoy our favourite water activities, a beachfront patio, breathtaking sunsets, and panoramic views of the North Shore mountains, Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver.
ClubLocarno accommodates both beginners and experienced water sport enthusiasts. As safety is our number one concern, Members are required to attend a free mandatory orientation session for every chosen activity. Members will be assessed at that time to determine skill levels. If lessons are required, we offer instruction for all of our fleets at a very reasonable cost.
For 2008, we are introducing Standup Paddling and Surf Skiing. New boats for our Sailing fleet include: a Laser (one-person monohull) with racing rigging, a Tasar (two-person monohull), a Nacra 500 (16 ft. catamaran) and a World Class F18 (18 ft. catamaran). Our Windsurfing, Rowing and Kayaking fleets will also be updated with brand new equipment.
