  Windsurfing Checkout
  
  Please email windsurfing@clublocarno.com to arrange an early season checkout.

  For level 2, 3 or foil board checkouts: contact a fleet captain or director. Foil checkouts must be scheduled separately.
  

  This checkout is mandatory for ALL members wishing to use our windsurfing fleet. This is not a windsurfing lesson. To attend this checkout you are expected to have at least 15 hours of windsurfing experience or completed our Beginner Windsurfing Lessons. Successful completion of the checkout will qualify you to use our Level 1 windsurfing gear.

  We will show you where our windsurfing equipment is stored and go over the windsurfing craft sign out procedure as well as how to properly transport the gear to and from the beach and how to report damage. If you have not already completed our Beginner WIndsurfing Lessons then you will also be asked to demonstrate your ability to launch, sail out, tack and sail your windsurfing board safely back to the beach. You will also be asked to demonstrate a self rescue technique.

  Meet at the Windsurfing Container. If you haven't taken our Beginner Windsurfing Lessons please wear your wetsuit (mandatory for windsurfing) to be ready to demonstrate your on water skills. At the discretion of the checkout leader the on-water test may be waived.

  Club Locarno have partnered with Windsure Adventure Watersports to offer professional Windsurfing lessons at Jericho Sailing Centre for 50% discounted price. These lessons are intended to progress skills from beginners to intermediate.

  Lessons:

  • Discovery III - 3-hour professional training
  • Discovery IV - 3-hour professional training

  When:

  • March & April - call Windsure for possible early season lesson options.
  • May 1st to September 30th, most days (weekdays & weekends), per Windsure's schedule and availability. 

  Cost: $70 each lesson per person after discount (plus booking fee and taxes). You first signup with this registration form to access the discount coupon code.

  Content:

  You will receive both on land and on water instruction. The intent of these lessons is to progress you from beginner to intermediate, building confidence to get in foot straps and get planing .

  All windsurf equipment provided as well as personal flotation device (PFD) and wetsuit.

  Conditions:

  1. You must be a Club Locarno Windsurfing member to signup.
  2. You must also be a Jericho Sailing Centre member
  3. You must complete beginner lessons (e.g. Discovery 1 & 2, or equivalent) 

  Registration Process:

  1. Complete the Club Locarno Registration form. You will receive an email with a coupon code.
  2. Do not share this coupon code with others. This is important.
  3. Go to the booking site of Windsure: https://www.windsure.com/, or call Windsure (+1 604-224-0615) to avoid the online booking charge.
  4. You will register for either Discover Windsurfing III and Discover Windsurfing IV.
  5. Use the coupon code to receive a 50% discount.
  6. You schedule your lessons as you like.
  7. You must bring your Jericho members card to the lesson as proof of membership.

  After the lessons

  After you have completed your lessons you may may want to request a Club Locarno Level 2 checkout so you can access the L2 gear. You can contact the windsurfing director or a fleet captain to see if this can be scheduled on one of your lesson days. We want to get you progressing as soon as possible. :-)

  Club Locarno member must have completed these courses, or equivalent, to be eligible to access the Windsurfing fleet.

  Two 3-hour sessions:

  • Discover Windsurfing I - $145
  • Discover Windsurfing II - FREE*

  * Discovery Windsurfing II is free subject to paying and completing Discover Windsurfing I.

  1. Wing-surfing lesson - equipment knowledge, points of wing/wind theory, steering, tacking, water and marine environment safety. You will spend time both on land and on the water.
  2. Wing-foiling lesson - learn how to carry equipment, handle a board, start, pitch and roll management, and self rescue.

  All Wing equipment provided as well as personal flotation device (PFD) and wetsuit.

  Note, due to light winds at Jericho, getting above the water using the wing-foil can be very challenging and may not be feasible during the lesson and may require lots of practice.

• Social Racing Tuesdays

  Ahoy, sailors! This is a member-run, weekly social sail at the Jericho Tuesdays Regatta – a perfect chance to connect with fellow sailors. We'll aim to have a group leader for each event.

  June and July Tuesday evenings promise spirited racing, a course for camaraderie in a tight-knit sailing community that shares the thrill of regatta with sailors of every level. Join us to chase the wind and create memories that'll fill our sails for years!

  Participants must register in one of the following categories:

  • Skipper: You will be responsible for skipping the boat.
  • Skipper/Crew: You are comfortable alternating between roles.
  • Crew: You will sail as a crew member during the races.

  You will meet at 1700 to assign crews to boats, check them out and rig. Note new time and day because of shortening evenings and wind picking up in the afternoons may change the time over the season, so keep an eye! Aim to launch from the beach at 1800!

  We will mainly sail on Vanguards. If there are more participants than Vanguards available, you can race on a Tasar (or an RS500!) if the skipper is checked out.

  At the end of each day, we will head up to the Galley with the rest of the Jericho sailors while we wait for Dominique to share the results.
  

  Please register for the event, and cancel if you can't make it so others know if they will have company. Check if others are registered before turning up, unless you're happy to race alone.  
  

  NEW MEMBERS ARE WELCOME (provided you have sailing experience)! Check with the member leading the event to see if someone might be able to sign you out as a guest and that you have suitable skills to join the social racing.

  GUESTS: You may also bring a guest who has sailing experience to crew for you (remember you are responsible for guests & equipment you sign out). 
  

  Weather permitting - we will cancel and retreat to The Galley if winds are beyond 15 knots. Please watch the #sailing channel on Club Locarno Slack for last minute changes.

• ***Windsurf Trip - Nitinaht Aug'25 (THE BIG TRIP)***

  Open to L2 & L3 - Windsurfers and Wingers. Limited number of foils will be taken this year.

  Destination: Nitinaht Lake, BC

  This trip is awesome for intermediate and advanced sailors. Beautiful Nitinaht Lake typically has no wind in the morning and high wind at the end of the day. A great opportunity to progress.

  Level 2 sailors can enjoy consistent strong winds to nail water starts, get into harness lines and foot straps and get planing, and get foiling. Level 3 will enjoy blasting, bump & jump and lots of runs to perfect their carve gybe.

  The trip details:

  • Dates are: Friday, August 1st to Monday, August 4th (August long weekend).
  • Open to Level 2 and 3 windsurf members.
  • You will organize your own transport, tents & food etc. (Often members share transport)
  • The club will rent a van to transport most club gear. Ideally some members will also take gear on roof racks.

  Prices & charges:

  • Club arranged camping is $55 per adult (3 nights)
  • Kids under 17 are free (limits apply)
  • Club Locarno gear is an additional trip fee of $35 (members only)

  Guests & kids:

  • Partners, kids and other guests are welcome.
  • Maximum 1 adult guest
  • Maximum 4 kids under 17 years old
  • Members with a guest should try to share a tent so as to keep space available for other members   
  • In the reservation form, DO NOT include kids in the number of guests, instead indicate the number of kids in specific drop-down box.

  Important Notes:

  • Do not register another Locarno windsurf member as a guest - have them register separately.
  • Windsurf members with their own camping arranged are welcome to join and use the club equipment for the $35 fee.
  • The road to Nitinaht includes 45 km of (mostly good) gravel logging road.
    
  • We will sort out details for tents, sites and transport at the planning meetings.
  • Due to summer demand, book ferries for vehicles ASAP

   Key Dates:

  • Monday, July 14th (7:30 pm): Online planning meeting (early transport, etc.)
  • Monday, July 28th: Final online planning meeting (transport, camping, etc.)
  • Thursday, July 31st at 5 PM to load the van!
  • Friday, August 1st: Leave
  • Monday, August 4th: Return
  • Tuesday, August 5th: Post-Trip Cleanup & BBQ (TBC)

  Participation and volunteering

  The trip is member run. To share the load, members are expected to

  • Help with loading the van & post-trip clean up
  • Rigging and carrying gear

  A rigging and transportation clinic will be organized in July.
  

  Registration survey:

  Please complete the survey as best as possible to aid trip planning. Planning considerations include windsurf gear, transport and Nitinaht campsite occupancy limits for adults, kids and number of tents. Survey results will be reviewed and reconfirmed at the planning meeting, in case there are changes.

  Addition information:

  • Members can organize their own camping at the Nitinaht Campsite. If there is no availability, check again closer to the time as there are often last minute cancellations.
  • For members taking a vehicle, book a BC Ferry ASAP
  • A U-Haul van is booked for gear transport and will be on the 8:35 AM ferry on Friday and back on the 8:30 PM ferry on Monday.
