    About Vanguard 15

Designed over 15 years ago by naval architect Bob Ames, the V15 incorporates a light, fast hull shape for racers while remaining stable and comfortable for day sailing. The revolutionary hull design allows the boat to plane in moderate breeze. Built by Laser Performance, the V15 is constructed of a lightweight yet durable fiberglass and features molded gunwales that fit the curve of the sailor’s legs.

The V15 also sports a three-foot daggerboard which allows the cockpit to remain open and uncluttered. The simple rig has minimal control lines and no spinnaker, making it an easy boat for beginners, while still providing a thrill for experienced racers.

    About the event

This clinic includes Part 1 and Part 2 of the checkout. It is for experienced sailors who want to be cleared to use a new fleet; it is also a great refresher. For those who are doing their first checkout, it will include an orientation to the sailing fleet and club room.

You will also require an on-water checkout (Part 3); this is a separate registration. Details of our checkout clinics can be found at Sailing Orientations and Checkout Clinics.

All checkout participants must know how to sail and preferably have experience on or an a similar boat class.

Experienced club members will be on hand to review capsize procedures, to assess your competency in launching, landing, on-water handling, and capsize recovery.  Members are expected to complete Parts 1 and 2 prior to attending this skills checkout.

    • Sailing Orientation & Rigging Clinic (Part 1 & 2) for the same vessels.
This is required once for the monohull fleet (best done on a Laser) and once for the multihull fleet.
